By Susanne Watson Epting.  Monograph Series #19, 2008. 11 page pdf

This paper was delivered at the 2007 meeting of the Ecumenical Network for the Diaconate (TEND), October 19, 2007 in Rosemont, Illinois. In this paper, Watson-Epting outlines the evolving role of deacons as prophetic voice in which they serve as agents of transformation in a changing church. She reminds her audience that they are called to interpret the world to the Church, and they need to claim the power of the basin and towel, encouraging and inviting others to develop their own diakonia.
