Join AED's Board!
We invite passionate, enthusiastic individuals who desire to offer their gifts and leadership skills for Engaging the Diakonia of All Believers. Specific skill sets desired are: development, public policy/legislative advocacy (inside and/or outside the church institution), community organizing, law, accounting, and experience with non-profits. We are committed to increasing the geographic, ethnic, age, and gender diversity of our Board, and are especially looking for applicants from traditionally underrepresented populations. Full details and application. A message to our AED community We are pleased to share two important updates as the Association for Episcopal Deacons enters a season of transition and continued growth. Carter Hawley on Planned Leave Executive Director Carter Hawley will begin a planned personal leave of absence on May 3, 2026, returning October 1, 2026. This intentional pause reflects our commitment to sustainable leadership and long-term organizational health. We are grateful for Carter's vision and steady stewardship of AED, and we look forward to her return. Welcome, Grace Swinski - Interim Executive Director We are delighted to welcome Grace E. Swinski as Interim Executive Director during Carter's leave. Grace brings a rich background in community coordination, nonprofit operations, and grant management through her many years of leadership with the Cranston Child Opportunity Zone and Cranston Family Center. She is also a deacon, ordained in 2016 and commissioned as Archdeacon in 2022, and brings both vocational depth and practical expertise to this role. Grace can be reached by email. Phone and mailing address remain unchanged. Welcome, Hilary Greene - Membership Director We are also pleased to announce that Hilary Greene has joined AED staff as Membership Director. Hilary has served AED faithfully as a volunteer and now steps into a paid role to support our nearly 750 members with greater capacity and consistency. Hilary can be reached by email.
