The Fund for the Diaconate
The Fund for the Diaconate is an independent nonprofit charitable organization which assists deacons -- working, retired or disabled -- who have insufficient funds for their needs. Originally created as a retiring fund for deaconesses, The Fund was opened to males in 1990. It is administered by a Board of Directors and Executive Committee.
Grants are need-based and tax-free under an IRS ruling. Grants may be distributed as periodic allowances for deacons in need of regular support, or one-time allowances to cover emergencies such as illness, dental care, disaster relief, etc. The Grants Coordinator may also assist in connecting deacons in need to other resources in their diocese. The Fund’s resources have grown through careful investment since its founding in 1927, but donations are always needed. Visit their website for more information and a brochure which gives details on how to donate or apply for a grant. |
