By Benjamin L. Hartley. Monograph Series No. 16, 2003. 22 page pdf.

In this interesting social analysis that was originally presented in 2002 to The Ecumenical Network of the Diaconate, Hartley has collected a plethora of interesting data concerning the growth of the Diaconate across denominational lines in North America. His reasoning is two-fold: He sees the diaconate as a way to support the movement to support the church’s mission in society and for the establishment of areas of ecumenical cooperation. His cohort of deacons include those from traditional mainline churches - Episcopalians, Lutherans (both ECLA and Missouri Synod) and Methodists, as well as Roman Catholics.
