By W. Keith McCoy, Monograph Series No. 9, 1998.  8 page pdf.
This is a revised version of a keynote address given on October 23, 1996 at the second Exploring Servant Ministry Conference of the Diocese of New Jersey, held at St. Stephen’s Church, Waretown. Here McCoy outlines an interesting framework for looking at the work of the deacon as part of a ministering team. In his description, McCoy emphasizes that the para-professional not only has depth of knowledge, but is able to act independently on his/her own to enhance the overall ability of a clergy team to minister effectively to members of congregations and beyond.
