By Osvaldo D. Vena. 2003 Monograph Series No. 14 .  14 page pdf.

This paper was originally presented in 2002 at The Ecumenical Network for the Diaconate. In it the author closely analyses the differences between the Greek and Hebraic understanding of the idea of servanthood as part of the diaconal role. Vena’s excellent comparison of selected passages in Mark, Matthew and Luke in the use of diakonos (servant) and doulos (slave) is commendable. The author also includes an interesting interpretation of diakonia and the role of women in the New Testament.
