Edited by Edwin F. Hallenbeck, 2002. 36 page pdf.

This working paper grew out of the sixth annual Archdeacon & Deacon Directors’ Conference that was held in New Orleans in March of 2002.  Consolidates work begun in 1995 in an attempt to cull information about diaconal training programs across the Episcopal Church.  It looks at the philosophy behind formation and training, the study areas required by Church Canons and spiritual formation of deacons and theory and practice of diakoneo.  The program of the Diocese of Alabama is presented as an example of a successful training program.
