By Louise Williams. 1999 Monograph Series No. 10. 16 page pdf.

Deaconess Louise Williams, director emeritus of the Lutheran Deaconess Association, shares with us her insights and experiences as a leader of the deaconess movement in the Lutheran tradition. She speaks about the three pictures of diakonia: foot washing, waiting on tables and working for change, as central to the work of deaconesses in her denomination in particular and in the lives of all diaconal ministers. She describes tools for ministry and talks about power, planning, professionalism and spiritual tools.  As many writers in these series of monographs touch upon, Williams includes a discussion on the importance of diaconal community to the spiritual lives of diaconal ministers.
