AED endorsed five resolutions
After going through the Blue Book, TREC, and other resolutions, the AED
Legislative Action Committee chose 7 among 19 diaconal-focused options to
hand over to the AED Board for endorsement. On June 16, the Board met
(via phone) and decided to endorse the following 5 resolutions at General
A082 Provide Theological Education for Latino/Hispanic Ministries Passed both houses
A091 Affirm Work for Food Ministries and Food Security Passed both houses
A096 Affirm Relationship-Based Social Justice Passed both houses
C020 Ministry to People with Mental Illness and Their Families Passed both houses
A011 Recommit to Criminal Justice Reform Study and Advocacy Passed both houses
Text of the resolutions can be found here. Current status of resolutions and their final text (if complete) can be found here.
We also are thrilled that three resolutions were sponsored by deacons. In addition to C020 above (Deacon Susan Phillips of Delaware), deacons have spearheaded:
C039 Fossil Fuel Divestment and Clean Energy Reinvestment (The Ven. Betsy Black Bennett, NE)
D002 Amend Canon III.4.1(a), 2(a) and (b) (The Ven. Kristi Neal, WNC)
We encourage all deacons to advocate in their dioceses for these important works.
Taskforce for Reimagining the Episcopal Church (TREC )
TREC's final report, Word to the Church, lays out their recommendations for adoption at General Convention 2015. This letter discusses prophetic voices, catalysts for mission, and nonstipendiary clergy.
