In 2010 the Association for Episcopal Deacons (nee NAAD) identified a group of deacons interested in promoting awareness
of domestic poverty in the United States and Canada. The goals of the task force are
|
1) To help deacons describe the level of poverty experienced in local neighborhoods and communities, 2) To recommend resources that can be used in parishes to talk about poverty, 3) To help churches work together to change systemic factors that keep people in poverty, and 4) to collect and share stories that will help us seem more clearly our role as Christ's servants. |

The chair of this task force is The Ven. Louise Thibodaux, Diocese of Alabama. Please contact Dn. Thibodaux about contributing to the work of the task force or about receiving their e-newsletter "Seeking and Serving." Please take a look at the PowerPoint presentation Deacon Lou gave to the Archdeacons Conference in New Orleans. (Size warning: it's 8.7 MB)
The Task Force has prepared a Domestic Poverty Toolkit, which available in a downloadable ZIP file. This file is quite large (24MB), and you will need a file compression utility such as jZip to open it, but it is well worth the effort.
